Due to pet overpopulation every dog and cat should be spayed or neutered by the age of 6 months. Not only are you keeping your animal from becoming pregnant you are also lowering the risk of your dog getting certain types of cancer!!! It really is very important for you to spay or neuter you pet! Every year millions of animals are euthanized simply because they do not have homes! Even puppies! No breed of dog is immune from the pet over population problem! Please be responsible and have your pet spayed or neutered. Below is a list of various spay and neuter assistance programs in Virginia. This way saying I can not afford it is not an excuse. Hampton Roads Low Cost Spay / Neuter Programs:

Tidewater Humane
(757) 497-SPAY (800) 891-SPAY

Tidewater Humane is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit corporation. Our Spay/Neuter Assistance Program is provided by a small group of dedicated people concerned about the pet over-population problem. In Hampton Roads, more than 35,000 cats, dogs, kittens, and puppies are euthanized every year in our pounds and shelters simply because not enough homes exist for them. We believe that the only sensible and humane solution to this tragedy is prevention -- by reducing the numbers of animals being born.

We reimburse the veterinarians an additional amount for each certificate. Thus, we're always in need of funds.

In addition to the cost of the surgery, your pet's vaccinations must be up to date, and certain extra fees for your pet may be charged, depending on factors specific to each pet -- including pregnancy, infection, and (for dogs) weights over 50 lbs.
